Born in 1967 in Athens/Greece.
He attended the national conservatory of Athens and between 1982 and 1986 he studied Jazz-piano with Marcos Alexiou. During his career he played and recorded with all the great greek jazz-musicians and international Artists like: Arild Andersen, Markus Stockhausen, Louisiana Red, Andi Sheppard, Bob Brozman, Carla Cook a.o.

Kontrafouris formed his own trio in 1997 and produced the album "DONT BE SHY" (Lyra records). In March 1999 he recorded the music for his second CD "NAME" (Legend records), with Ralph Peterson Jr. on drums.
